Durban High Court has sentenced Ayanda Zulu to life imprisonment for the murder of an Uber driver.
A man from Marianhill who orchestrated the murder of a 53-year-old e-hailing driver before burning his body beyond recognition in a bushy area in Waterloo was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Durban High Court on Wednesday.
Ayanda Zulu was described by the court as the mastermind behind the murder of Zwakushiwo Dennis Zondi.
Zulu was the last accused to be sentenced after his co-accused — Lindani Shezi, Andile Mbhele, Luyanda Innocent Shozi, Siyabonga Mkhize, and twins Asande and Wandile Shange — pleaded guilty, received their sentences, and implicated him in the crime.
Evidence before the court revealed that Zulu, Mbhele and Shozi devised a plan to rob Zondi of his dark brown Toyota Rumion. The trio lured Zondi, who worked as an Uber driver, under the pretence of requiring his services.
