Then, over the course of the next year or so, it will match them with as many as 400 nonprofits across America and pay them $85,000 to spend one year—full-time, in-person—to help those organizations use AI tools to improve their operations and advance their missions.Anyone over 18 years of age who has less than two years of full-time work experience may apply, regardless of their educational background. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. and be comfortable working with Claude.“We are intentionally trying to be extremely accessible,” CodePath CEO Michael Ellison said. “We’re not requiring that you have a certain degree. We want the initial group of fellows to be representative of a broad section of the population in this country.”Fellowship applications for the program are now open and will close on July 17th for the first cohort of 100 fellows, slated to begin in October 2026. Applications will remain open on a rolling basis for the next two cohorts that are scheduled to start in January 2027 and August 2027.MORE FOR YOU“We’re hoping it’s a good idea that can take root and that other people can build on and learn from, whether that’s public or private,” Anthropic president Daniela Amodei told the Associated Press. “But I think my hope is that we’ll learn, the people who do it will learn, and we’ll be able to come back and do it again next time even better.”A Three-Way PartnershipClaude Corps is set up as a three-way partnership. Anthropic will provide $150 million to start the program, lead its overall strategy, and provide Claude expertise. CodePath, a national nonprofit that’s largest provider of collegiate computer science education, will act as the fellows’ employer of record and lead programming during the fellowship. Social Finance, a nonprofit and registered investment advisor, will evaluate the program and build a longer-term financial vehicle to enable it to scale beyond the initial commitment. The FellowsAt the beginning of the program, Anthropic and CodePath will provide the fellows with an intensive bootcamp on how to use Claude in nonprofit settings. After their placement, fellows will receive five hours of ongoing training weekly, with the remainder of their time dedicated to work on behalf of their host organization. In addition to a a full-time salary of $85,000 and benefits, the fellows will receive support from a CodePath mentor and have access to the following: office hours from Anthropic to answer technical questions, a Claude token budget, and professional guidance from their manager at the host organization.Host OrganizationsOver the next 12 months, up to 400 nonprofits will host Claude Corps Fellows. Host organizations will include nonprofits in areas like workforce development, public health, housing, food security, veterans services, and education. Organizations that want to host a fellow must apply by July 17 for the first cohort. Applications for the later cohorts will be reviewed on a rolling basis after that.According to the Claude Corps website, eligible host organizations must:be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that’s a Claude for Nonprofits Team or Enterprise customer.provide an office where fellows can spend regular time with the agency’s team. name a senior leader to oversee the fellowship and a staff member to manage the fellow’s work.Organizations that onboard one or more Claude fellows will receive a one-time $10,000 grant to help pay for the operation and administration of the program. Although there is no obligation to hire fellows after the initial year ends, the hope is that many participating organizations will do so.The website lists several hosts, including:Braven, a Chicago nonprofit that teaches first-generation and lower-income students how to land a good first job.Code the Dream, a Durham, North Carolina nonprofit that provides free coding education and paid software apprenticeships.Heartland Forward, a nonpartisan Bentonville, Arkansas think-tank focused on accelerating economic growth in the American heartland. The Montgomery County Food Bank in Conroe, Texas. Reef Environmental Education Foundation, a Florida-based marine conservation nonprofit that conducts underwater surveys to protect reefs. The YMCA of Greater Charlotte, North Carolina. According to Anthropic, “the benefits of transformative AI systems could come at the cost of significant disruption,” but it maintains that “if Claude Corps works, we’ll have a foundation for something much larger: a model for widening AI’s benefits during a period of vast economic change.” In addition to the launch of Claude Corps, Anthropic also recently unveiled its policy framework, emphasizing the need for governments to develop regulations that can mitigate the various categories of risk posed by AI.
