Suspected counterfeit food products and cables confiscated during JMPD raid.

Officers inspect goods seized during the CBD counterfeit food operation bust.

Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers have uncovered an alleged illicit operation involving counterfeit food packaging and suspected stolen municipal infrastructure during a high-impact operation in the Johannesburg CBD.

According to JMPD, officers conducting an inner-city sweep approached informal traders selling goods from trolleys on Wednesday when the vendors fled into a building at the corner of Edith Cavell and Plein streets.

Expired food allegedly being relabelled for resale and suspected stolen municipal infrastructure were seized during a JMPD operation in the Johannesburg CBD, where vendors fled into a building before officers moved in.
