Minister of Public Service and Administration Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi said the representation of women exceeds government's employment equity target of 50%, particularly at senior management level.
Most public servants in South Africa are women.
This was revealed by Minister of Public Service and Administration Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi in a parliamentary reply, which provides a snapshot of the country's public service workforce as of April 30 this year.
According to the figures, the public service employs more than 1.2-million people. Of these, 779,481 are women, accounting for 63.5% of the workforce.
