Explosions and sustained gunfire shook Niger's capital, Niamey, early Thursday morning after suspected armed militants launched an attack on the city's international airport, according to witnesses and security sources.
The attack began at about 6:00 a.m. local time, with multiple explosions followed by intense gunfire that lasted for more than an hour, witnesses said.
