Councils in Dorset and the London boroughs of Camden and Barnet have begun trialling an AI-based system to assist in processing simpler types of planning applications.

The Augmented Decision Making prototype is aimed mainly at “householder” planning applications, related to altering or extending a single dwelling, which makes up about 69 percent of the total, according to the government’s Incubator for Artificial Intelligence, i.AI.

The incubator launched a tender for the project last November, awarding it in February to Google DeepMind, Google Cloud and delivery partner Faculty, a start-up whose acquisition by Accenture completed last month.
