England's German head coach Thomas Tuchel celebrates their win over over Croatia with captain Harry Kane.

Captain Harry Kane credited Thomas Tuchel with delivering an inspiring half-time team talk that propelled England to a 4-2 victory over Croatia to launch their World Cup campaign on Wednesday.

Kane scored twice in the first half of a chaotic encounter in Texas — including a retaken penalty — only for the 2018 runners-up to fight back and enter the break on level terms at 2-2.

However, the Three Lions started the second half with a bang when Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham galloped down the right flank unchallenged before pinging a precise finish into the bottom corner. England, arrivals in North America as one of the tournament favourites, conjured up numerous chances after that through Kane, Bellingham and Nico O'Reilly, before substitute Marcus Rashford wrapped up the points.

While the victory showcased England at their attacking best, they looked incredibly flimsy at the back, particularly during a vulnerable first half.
