For this summer, Mozilla has expanded the VPN integrated into the Firefox browser to significantly more than the previously four possible countries and completely lifted the previous data volume of 50 GByte. This is intended to allow holidaymakers to hide their IP address and location even while on the go and surf as if they were at home. However, this is a promotion limited until August 31. From September 1st, the data limit and the restriction to the previous four countries will apply again.
In March of this year, Firefox received a free VPN starting with version 149. Users in the USA, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom received 50 GByte of monthly data volume. This VPN (Virtual Private Network) does not offer system-wide coverage – it remains limited to the browser. The browser-internal proxy routes the data traffic to hide the IP address and location.
VPN expansion from 4 to 26 countries
However, Mozilla recently announced in its blog that it would lift the data limit for this summer and expand the number of countries where the VPN can be used from 4 to more than 25. In addition to the USA, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, the Firefox VPN can also be used in Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Canada, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, and South Africa until the end of August.
