Health chiefs are seriously concerned about patient safety amid an ongoing shortage in pain killers, blood pressure drugs and epilepsy medication.

Experts have previously warned that access to medicines in Britain is at its most fragile point in years, leaving patients at risk of stroke, heart attack and seizures.

Disruptions have been blamed on the war in Iran, but now the National Pharmacy Association (NPA) is calling on the Government to convene an urgent taskforce to tackle the problem.

Without it, shortages could go on well into 2027, experts say.

'These shortages are some of the most severe the UK has experienced,' Oliver Picard, chair of the NPA, said.
