Maddie Meyer / Getty ImagesJune 17, 2026 Updated 8:43 pm EDTBOSTON — Driveline founder Kyle Boddy is no longer serving in an advisory role for the Boston Red Sox, a team source confirmed to The Athletic on Wednesday.Boddy first joined the Red Sox as a special advisor to chief baseball officer Craig Breslow shortly after Breslow was hired in November 2023. Boddy told The Boston Globe, which first reported the news, that he is pursuing two other roles within baseball that conflicted with his role with the Red Sox.Boddy founded Driveline, the data-driven player development center, in 2008, and it has had an enormous impact across the game, with an increasing number of players training at the facility in the offseason. The company’s methods have permeated baseball in hitting and pitching.He previously served as the Cincinnati Reds’ director of pitching from October 2019 to September 2021.The Red Sox are one of several teams that employ multiple former Driveline coaches, including hitting coach John Soteropulos, who was promoted from an assistant hitting coach following several coaches’ firings on April 25.Breslow explained his view of Boddy’s role with the club in a 2024 interview with The Athletic.“He’s someone that I’ve been able to bounce ideas off of, we’ve been able to exchange ideas,” Breslow said. “And then also, he’s engaged in more specific projects. He works closely with our performance group and given that Driveline has had a ton of success integrating sports science, strength and conditioning with skill acquisition training. … He’s helped us work through ways in which (Driveline) leveraged AI with their facility, and how we can operate more efficiently.
