Fox News host Brian Kilmeade hit out at Vice President JD Vance over the recent Iran war negotiations and suggested that “maybe he wasn’t the right person to bring this conflict to an end.”U.S. officials on Wednesday released the details of a “memorandum of understanding” with Iran, a 14-point plan that includes ending the hostilities, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and establishing a $300 billion reconstruction fund for Tehran. That agreement, which officials are expected to sign at a formal ceremony this Friday, will set the stage for broader negotiations in the coming weeks. After the agreement was first announced over the weekend, Vance quickly became the face of the deal and defended it in several media interviews. Now, he’s also bearing the brunt of the criticism, including from Kilmeade.“The problem is, by the deal that is framed out, it doesn't look like Iran has been brought to its knees. That's the problem. Even if we have to go back and finish the job, at this moment, it seems like Iran got a lot out of it that many people weren't expecting. So that's going to be the issue, and maybe the president wasn't even expecting, because he has got enough plates in the air that he can't be into every detail,” the Fox & Friends host said Wednesday morning.Kilmeade went on to reference the slew of reports that suggested Vance was “against the conflict to begin with.” Fox News host Brian Kilmeade (right) suggested Vice President JD Vance 'wasn’t the right person' to bring the Iran conflict to an end (Fox News)“I just wonder if the vice president, who was against this, by all reports was against the conflict to begin with, maybe he wasn't the right person to bring this conflict to an end. We'll find out,” Kilmeade added. The vice president was an outspoken critic of foreign intervention during his time as an Ohio Senator, leading many to question whether he had had reservations about Trump’s war with Iran. But Vance responded to those concerns in March, accusing critics of “trying to drive a wedge between members of the administration, between me and the president.”“What the president has said consistently, going back to 2015 and I agree with them, is that Iran should not have a nuclear weapon,” he said at the time. The Independent has reached out to Vance’s office for comment.Speaking to reporters Wednesday, the president touted the “historic” agreement with Iran, but joked he’ll be “blaming” Vance if it “doesn’t work out.” Trump also made it clear that the agreement is not set in stone, and that the U.S. will go “right back to dropping bombs” if he doesn’t like the final result. “No, it’s not final. It’s a memorandum of understanding, and if I don’t like it, we’ll go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs on their head,” he said.
