Need to knowBBC Breakfast will be amongst the shows affected by major cuts that will be coming into place in the coming months, with other popular programming also facing the axe18:05, 17 Jun 2026Updated 18:05, 17 Jun 2026BBC Breakfast will be amongst the high profile shows affected after the new director general announced news cuts (Image: BBC)BBC Breakfast will be amongst the high profile shows affected after the new director general announced plans to cut £80 million from programming on TV, radio and news as part of huge cuts across the corporation.Former Google executive Matt Brittin unveiled his plans in a staff email today where he said the BBC must be “simpler and faster” going forward, with changes set to come in in September.The BBC boss announced the plans on Wednesday afternoon as he said: "We will reduce commissioning spend across Content, News and Nations by around £80 million in 2027–28 and review our broadcast TV channels and radio network portfolio as audiences move online.”As part of the cuts, BBC Breakfast will no longer air on Sunday mornings, and The World Tonight, which has ran on Radio 4 since 1956, will be axed completely.Others set to be axed are Midnight News and Money Box Live, whilst Radio 5 will see its airtime cut.It will mean also mean that other much loved shows, series and radio programmes are likely to be axed later this year and also next year.It's thought that between 1,800 and 2,000 job roles will be lost at the broadcaster, and Brittin claimed this will help with savings of £160m.READ THE FULL STORY: BBC Breakfast shake-up announced as part of £80 million of cuts
