A PALESTINIAN man, arrested for being undocumented, seeks to have criminal charges dropped after being granted temporary asylum in South Africa.

His legal representative argues that ongoing conflict in Gaza left him with no safe options for return.

The man, who is represented by attorney Yolanda Akram, brought an urgent application in the Durban High Court seeking an order be granted.

Some of the respondents in the matter include the manager of the Durban Refugee Reception Office (DRRO), the Minister of Home Affairs, the director-general of the Department of Home Affairs, and the National Director of Public Prosecutions.
