Miami-headquartered I Squared Capital plans to form a strategic partnership with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) to establish a $3 billion investment platform focused on developing critical energy infrastructure in South and Southeast Asia.I Squared and DFC, the international investment arm of the US government, will each commit half of the investment to build the platform which will support energy connectivity between the United States and the Indo-pacific region, including expanded access to US LNG and related energy exports. The development comes as the companies see rapid economic growth, urbanization and rising power demand in South and Southeast Asia driving investment needs in energy infrastructure, they said in a statement. Many countries in the region face infrastructure gaps that contribute to energy shortages, price volatility and constraints on industrial growth, they added.By expanding critical LNG and other petroleum product import, storage and transportation infrastructure, the platform aims to address the associated bottlenecks.I Squared has been investing across Asia since 2014 and has deployed more than $9 billion across 24 markets, building infrastructure platforms in the energy, utilities, transport and digital sectors. The latest platform represents DFC’s largest single investment in a project to date with an aim to mobilize long-term private capital to support the region’s growing energy infrastructure needs, they said. The transaction remains subject to approvals and closing conditions.I Squared is an independent global infrastructure investor dedicated to the mid-market, managing $60 billion in assets with investments including in power and utilities, transportation and logistics, and digital infrastructure. The portfolio includes companies operating in Abu Dhabi, London, Munich, New Delhi, São Paulo, Singapore, Sydney and Taipei. As the international investment arm of the US government, DFC mobilizes private capital to advance US foreign policy and economic development.
