Olivia Wilde has detailed the “traumatizing” moment she was served custody papers from her ex, Jason Sudeikis, while she was on stage at CinemaCon in 2022. During the April 2022 Las Vegas convention, the actor was presenting the trailer for her drama, Don’t Worry Darling, starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh. However, she was infamously interrupted by a stranger, who handed her a manila envelope that was labeled “Personal and Confidential” and contained child custody papers from Sudeikis. Wilde, 42, reflected on the experience during Wednesday’s episode of Alex Cooper’s podcast, Call Her Daddy. “One of the most f***ed up things I went through, among so many, was that I was served papers on stage,” she said. “Obviously, it was incredibly traumatizing; there’s so many elements to that. But I get through it because, weirdly, as women, we’re taught to muscle through the most insane experiences. Like, ‘just finish your speech.’ Got through it. Went backstage, completely dissolved into a puddle.“I was like, ‘No one saw it because there’s no phones allowed in this event,” she continued. “Oh, what’s that? It’s already up on Page Six. There’s a video? Okay. Well, no one's going to look because like no one’s paying attention.” Olivia Wilde said she was ‘incredibly traumatized’ after her ex served her the court papers during her presentation (Call Her Daddy)However, the Booksmart director said that a couple of months after the event, she met Tom Cruise for the first time, and he told her that what happened to her at CinemaCon was “f***ed up.” “Did you ever get clarity on if [that moment] was purposeful or not?” Cooper asked, to which Wilde responded: “No, Jason has told me that he did not know, and I need to believe that in order to continue.” The actor added, “I think that lawyers can be super f***ed up and do f***ed up things. I’m aware of that, but I think that people are never their best selves when they’re engaging in that kind of process. It was so f***ed up in so many ways. I know that whether or not he knew it was going to happen, I know it really hurt him to see it happening to me. “It was undeniable that it was a f***ed up thing, and I know he felt very bad that it happened to me.”Olivia Wilde received the custody papers during her onstage presentation at CinemaCon in 2022 (Getty Images)In 2022, Variety reported that the Ted Lasso creator was unaware that Wilde would be served with the papers at CinemaCon. A source said that he “would never condone” delivering the legal documents in such an “inappropriate manner.”Wilde and Sudeikis ended their relationship in November 2020 following a seven-year engagement. They share two children, Otis, 12, and Daisy, nine. The former couple settled their custody battle in 2023, with the We’re The Millers star agreeing to pay $27,500 a month in child support to his ex, according to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail at the time. The pair also agreed to follow a “week-on, week-off” custody schedule.
