Human rights activist, Francis Nwapa, has said that removing President Bola Tinubu from office will not automatically improve the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians, or solve the numerous economic and social challenges millions of Nigerians are facing.

The activist insisted that Nigeria’s deepening economic and social crisis is rooted in a broader political and economic system sustained by competing factions of the elite across multiple political parties.

Nwapa made the remarks in a statement issued on June 17, 2026, in which he challenged the growing popularity of slogans such as “APC Must Go” and “Tinubu Must Go.”

He warned that focusing solely on the current administration risks obscuring what he described as the real causes of poverty, unemployment, inflation, insecurity and underdevelopment in Nigeria.

According to him, while public frustration over worsening economic hardship is understandable, progressive activists and members of the political Left must go beyond popular sentiments and provide what he called political clarity.
