Kalkura Prathistana and Savayava Krushika Grahaka Balaga will jointly hold “Maavu Halasu Mela” on Saturday and Sunday at Manju Prasada, Mallika Layout, Kadri Kambla, in Mangaluru. The mela will be held between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on the two days.Talking to reporters in Mangaluru on Wednesday, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura from Kalkura Prathistana said local growers and those from Ramanagar, Mandya, Mysuru and Belagavi districts will take part in the mela. Apart from jackfruit varieties namely Rudraksha and Chandrabarke, mango varieties namely Mallika, Malgova, Neelam, Katpady, Badami and Totapuri will be sold.Dishes namely ‘Halasina Kebab’, ‘Halasina Garige’, chips, ‘Undlakka’, ‘Halasina Paavbhaji’, ‘Kadubu’, ‘Halasina Cake’, ‘Hoolige’, ‘Happala’, pickles and ice cream will be sold. Saplings of jackfruit and mango, seeds of local vegetables, agriculture equipments and books related to agriculture and its practices will be available. There will be cultural programmes, and presentation of yaksha sangeeta, harikatha, mimicry and environmental songs, during the two days.The first day programme will be inaugurated by President of Mangaluru Ramakrishna Mutt Swami Jitakamananda.
