New agreement covers military capabilities, defence industry cooperation and infrastructure projects
Poland and Germany on Wednesday signed a joint defence agreement to reaffirm mutual assistance commitments, strengthen military and industrial ties and boost cross-border infrastructure.
“We are strengthening our common security and sending a clear signal of the close partnership between our two countries,” German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said from Warsaw where the pact was signed.
In recent months, Warsaw has also concluded bilateral security cooperation treaties with France and the United Kingdom.
The country, on NATO’s eastern flank and home to the EU’s largest armed forces, continues to rely on the US as a key security partner but conflicting signals from Washington in recent months have reinforced efforts in Warsaw to diversify security partnerships.
