US President Donald Trump has warned that military action against Iran could resume if he is not satisfied with the final terms of a proposed agreement, casting uncertainty over a deal expected to be formally signed later this week.Speaking at the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, Trump said the memorandum of understanding (MoU) currently on the table was not yet a final agreement and made clear that Washington could return to military strikes if Tehran failed to comply with its commitments.Asked whether the deal was now complete, Trump replied: “It's not final. It's a memorandum of understanding, and if I don't like it, we'll go back to shooting them, dropping bombs on their heads. If I don't like it, if they don't behave, we'll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head. Okay? 'Cause they've misbehaved for 47 years.”The remarks came just 48 hours before the expected signing ceremony and appeared to contrast with earlier suggestions that negotiations had reached a breakthrough.Trump also dismissed reports that the United States would provide Iran with a $300 billion reconstruction fund as part of the agreement. Speaking at the summit, he said claims that Washington would invest such a sum were false. The president later reiterated that position on Truth Social, insisting that the agreement was centred on preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. “Iran has agreed to never have a Nuclear Weapon! Also, the story that the US is paying Iran 300 million Dollars is Fake News, put out by the Dumocrats!!!” he wrote.Vice-President JD Vance had earlier suggested that the agreement was already moving forward, saying both sides had “signed the deal digitally”. However, he stressed that any sanctions relief or access to frozen Iranian assets would depend on Tehran meeting its obligations under the arrangement. At the G7 summit, Trump also renewed his criticism of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear agreement negotiated during Barack Obama’s presidency.“But nobody could have made this deal. I mean, the JCPOA done by Obama, he handed them a billion seven in cash,” Trump said, referring to the $1.7 billion settlement paid to Iran during the implementation of the accord.Trump withdrew the United States from the JCPOA in 2018 during his first term, calling it one of the worst agreements ever negotiated. His latest comments suggest that while a new deal with Tehran may be close, Washington is still prepared to return to military pressure if the final terms fail to meet his expectations.
