The president of the Qatar motorsport federation has said his country’s upcoming grand prix will not shift its date if Formula 1 attempts to reschedule a canceled 2026 Middle East race. This makes a move to create another triple-header between the planned events in Baku and Singapore across late September and early October more likely. The scheduled F1 events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia in April were canceled in the aftermath of conflict between the United States and Israel and Iran breaking out on February 28.Derek Chang, the CEO of F1 commercial rights holder Liberty Media, then said in May “it might be possible to reschedule one race toward the end of the season.”As previously reported by The Athletic, this would be a complicated process, as adding a race at the very end of season would create an unprecedented four races in successive weekends and cause issues for the events long scheduled in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, which round out the 2026 campaign. The stance of the Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMFF) reflects the position of Formula One Management, which has formed what CEO Stefano Domenicali called “plans” in May in the event “the world, not only for the racing, will go back to (a) normal situation.”The main focus of these plans would be to create a new triple-header of races in Azerbaijan, then either Bahrain or Saudi Arabia on October 4, then move on to Singapore — around the planned events in Baku and Singapore on September 26 and 11 October respectively.
