The road was long, with many a winding turn that led her to who knew where. Geographically, of course, she knew exactly where – the palatial Casa Niclyn, a $16m, 7,000 sq ft mansion in Beverly Hills with four bedrooms, six bathrooms and an infinity pool. But emotionally, 14 year-old Harper Beckham’s journey was far less certain. But she was strong. His welfare was her concern. He wasn’t heavy. He was her brother.

For those living in a Beckham-free zone, aka the Moon, a brief summary. On Friday, the Beckham family were in Hollywood to celebrate the unveiling of Sir David’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Not the entire Beckham family, because even moon-dwellers know by now that eldest son Brooklyn, 27, has been estranged from them all since January after releasing a long statement on Instagram saying that he didn’t want anything more to do with them. Despite Brooklyn’s place at the ceremony generously being filled by Tom Cruise, for his sister Harper, not even an Oscar-winning Hollywood icon could compensate for Brooklyn’s absence. And so she set off alone (bar the chauffeur driving her in her limo) to take matters into her own hands.

Brooklyn’s representatives have said her visit was “choreographed for the cameras”. While it may seem improbable that a 14-year-old girl could effect a family truce where her parents, her elder brothers and a team of lawyers have failed, the world would do well not to underestimate Harper Beckham. For this is not just any 14-year-old. This is a 14-year-old who is allegedly on the verge of launching a beauty empire; who is poised, according to some industry insiders, to become even wealthier and more successful than her parents. Given David, 51, and Victoria, 52, have a combined net worth of £1.185bn (David is the first British athlete to become a billionaire), Harper has her work cut out. But the word is that she will rise to the challenge as nonchalantly as she wears her mother’s £584 pink slip dress and £855 Aquazzura mules.
