Investigators from Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) have launched a pre-trial investigation into the crash of a Su-24M military aircraft in the Khmelnytskyi region.

According to the SBI press service, as reported by Ukrinform, an investigative team consisting of specialists from the Bureau’s central office and its territorial department in Khmelnytskyi was dispatched to the crash site immediately after the incident was reported.

Investigators are currently establishing all circumstances surrounding the flight, examining the aircraft’s technical condition, and determining the cause of the crash.

During an inspection of the crash site, investigators recovered the aircraft’s flight data recorder, commonly known as the “black box,” for forensic examination. They are also collecting the aircraft logbook, crew medical examination records, the airfield flight operations log, and other official documentation, including flight authorization records.

The incident has been preliminarily classified under Part 2 of Article 416 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code – violation of flight rules or flight preparation procedures resulting in a catastrophe or other grave consequences.
