The tremor, which occurred near Palu, caused widespread damage to houses, places of worship, public buildings, and a key transport bridge. Authorities confirmed 71 aftershocks throughout the day and reported that at least 312 people have been displaced by the damage. Despite initial concerns, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency confirmed there was no danger of a tsunami. Flights to and from Makassar Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport and Palu Mutiara airport experienced disruptions, though the UK's Foreign Office has not issued new travel advisories.
