The Toronto Film Festival has revealed that more than 130 buyers from 49 countries have confirmed they will attend the first edition of its market, which is referred to as TIFF: The Market.
Among the buyers attending the market, which takes place Sept. 10-16, are Picturehouse, Tanweer, Cineart, Bona Film Group, Metropolitan Film Export, Tobis, Eagle Pictures and A Contracorriente. (See full list below.)
Some 200 buyers were recommended to the market team by sales agencies and funding bodies around the world, with the goal of fueling acquisitions at the seven-day market.
“These confirmations reflect a concerted effort to respond to the requests from sellers, globally, for a robust contingency of buyers to be in attendance,” said Charles Tremblay, head of TIFF: The Market. “Our efforts also involve more practical solutions including access to quality and convenient meeting spaces for buyers and sellers to connect, and market screenings to showcase finished projects, as well as content at various stages of development.”
Although the majority of invitees are from the film distribution sector, buyers of series and “innovative content” were also invited.
