People in a number of countries, including close US allies, believe China is leading the race to develop powerful AI models – but trust in those models is far lower compared to their US counterparts, a survey has found.
The study comes as Chinese companies such as Zhipu AI aim to take advantage of the recent suspension of the latest models from Anthropic to gain users.
The survey from UK-based Public First, which included results from more than 18,000 people across 15 countries, found that just over half of respondents in the US believed the country was leading in AI, compared to 24 percent who thought China was leading.
