Sir Stephen Fry has been elected president of the Anglo-Hellenic League, following the retirement of Prince Michael of Kent, who held the role for over four decades.
A celebrated international actor, author, and television presenter, Fry – who was knighted last year – is also an established philhellene, decorated by Greece for his writings on heroes and myths in the classical world.
Expressing his pride and honor in assuming the three-year role, Fry said: “I know that I am not alone in feeling the uniquely affectionate and profound bond that has long existed between Britain and Greece. The league works hard to strengthen that bond.
“While of course respecting and celebrating Greece’s historic contribution to culture, art and so many other fields of human endeavor, it is all about Greece now and today. I am thrilled to be a part of that.”
