DreamWorks Animation has released the first trailer for Shrek 5, bringing the beloved residents of Far Far Away back to the big screen for their first feature-length adventure in nearly two decades. The teaser, unveiled by Universal Pictures, sees Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz reprise their iconic roles as Shrek, Donkey and Fiona. Joining the cast are Zendaya, Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo as Shrek and Fiona’s now-grown children: Felicia, Fergus and Farkle. The trailer opens with a playful recap of the original Shrek story before Donkey eagerly announces that it is time for a makeover, poking fun at the franchise’s updated animation style. The gang then embarks on another journey across Far Far Away, encountering new creatures, law enforcement, and magical mishaps along the way.One of the trailer’s biggest reveals is that Shrek and Fiona’s children are now central to the story, signaling a new chapter for the franchise while retaining its signature irreverent humor. The footage culminates with Shrek, Fiona, their children, and Donkey locked in a jail cell, where Donkey serenades the group to Shrek’s growing annoyance.Directed by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, with Brad Ableson serving as co-director, Shrek 5 marks the franchise’s first installment since 2010’s Shrek Forever After. Since then, the series expanded through the successful Puss in Boots spinoffs, including the critically acclaimed Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.Based loosely on William Steig’s children’s book, the Shrek films have collectively grossed more than $2.9 billion worldwide and remain among DreamWorks Animation’s most successful franchises.Shrek 5 is set to arrive in theaters on June 30, 2027.
