Delhi residents woke up to a pleasant morning on Wednesday under partly cloudy skies, with weather conditions expected to remain comfortable compared to the usual June heat. While morning hours are likely to remain largely dry, rain and thunderstorms may develop later in the day and continue intermittently over the next few days.According to Skymet Weather, Delhi's temperature is expected to range between 27°C and 42°C during the day, while humidity levels may fluctuate between 37% and 79%. Cloud cover is expected to remain low in the morning before increasing slightly towards the evening. Winds are likely to blow at an average speed of around 15 kmph. The national capital received fresh rain and thundershowers across several areas on Tuesday morning, bringing significant relief from the intense heat. The rainfall helped halt the rise in temperatures, with the maximum temperature dropping to around 31°C, nearly 9 degrees Celsius lower than previous levels. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27°C.Weather experts attribute the change in conditions to a cyclonic circulation over northern Rajasthan and adjoining areas. An east-west trough extending across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar is also influencing weather patterns near Delhi. Additionally, a western disturbance is expected to affect northwest India by late June 17, further supporting rainfall activity.Under the influence of these systems, pre-monsoon conditions are expected to persist in Delhi until at least June 20. Intermittent rain and thunderstorms are likely during this period, with most weather activity expected during the night and early morning hours. Daytime conditions are likely to remain relatively clear and comfortable. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast similar weather activity for Delhi-NCR over the coming days, including light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain around 34°C, while minimum temperatures may hover between 27°C and 28°C.The IMD has also predicted isolated to scattered rainfall across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan between June 16 and June 22. Thunderstorms accompanied by winds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely on several days during this period.Weather experts believe the combination of western disturbances and local weather systems will keep temperatures below normal for the next few days. Night temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-20s Celsius range, providing additional relief from the summer heat. While the normal date for the southwest monsoon's arrival in Delhi is June 27, weather experts suggest that the monsoon may reach the capital slightly later than usual this year. However, conditions remain favourable for the monsoon to advance further into parts of Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh over the next four to five days.Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds. For now, Delhi-NCR is expected to continue enjoying relatively pleasant weather, with intermittent rainfall providing respite from the scorching June heat.
