The United States Department of Justice has announced criminal charges against five men accused of plotting a mass casualty attack targeting government officials and other attendees at the UFC Freedom 250 event held on the grounds of the White House last Sunday.

According to the Justice Department, the suspects allegedly planned to deploy explosive-laden drones over the event before opening fire on fleeing attendees, including what prosecutors described as “high value targets.”

The arrests followed a multi-state FBI investigation that uncovered what authorities described as a coordinated conspiracy involving weapons stockpiling, encrypted communications, and detailed operational planning.
