Mitchell Nield.
A celebrated motocross resumé and a clean past offered no protection for one man as Northland judges continue to take a hard line on sexual offenders with past good character.
Kaikohe man Mitchell Nield is the second Northlander to stand before a judge in recent weeks, clutching pages of accolades, only to be told they carry no weight when set against serious sexual offending.
Nield was recently sentenced to seven-and-a-half-years' imprisonment, mirroring a similar outcome for former teacher Warren Togiatama, who likewise received no discount despite an otherwise impressive personal history.
