New agreements signed during Modi's visit cover workforce mobility, digital technologies and defence cooperation.
The new, expanded cooperation between Slovakia and India, announced on Monday, 15 June, by Prime Ministers Robert Fico and Narendra Modi, could have implications not only for the labour market but also for the import of defence technologies.
India is currently Slovakia’s second-largest source of foreign labour after Ukraine, according to the think tank CEIAS (Central European Institute of Asian Studies).
“The European Union increasingly views India as a key partner in its de-risking strategy,” CEIAS notes.
The European Union signed a free trade agreement with India this year, providing a foundation for the cooperation announced by the two prime ministers during Modi’s visit to Bratislava on Monday.
