RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Family Affairs Council marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15 with an awareness campaign promoting positive practices in dealing with older persons and encouraging respect, appreciation, and supportive care within families and the wider community.

The campaign reflects the council’s commitment to raising awareness of family-related issues and improving the quality of life of older persons by highlighting positive daily interactions, strengthening their social participation and inclusion, and fostering a more supportive environment that recognizes their value and needs.

It focuses on key themes such as respect, appreciation, quality interaction, and care. Through educational and media content, it promotes positive behavior in interacting with older persons and highlights the role of families and communities in supporting them.

As part of the campaign, the council is fostering partnerships across government, nonprofit, private, and media sectors to strengthen awareness efforts and expand outreach across society.

The council reaffirmed the importance of raising awareness of the rights and status of older persons, recognizing their lifelong contributions and experience, and supporting their active role within the family and society.
