Sevilla forward Rafa Mir has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for sexual assault and assault causing injuries. The 28-year-old and his friend Pablo Jara were both arrested after two women accused them of sexual assault at Mir’s home in September 2024.Both were released after a preliminary court appearance that month, and Mir has continued to play in Spain’s top tier while awaiting trial.Mir’s lawyer said at the time that the intercourse was consensual and that Mir categorically denied the accusations.“I do not agree with the ruling and we will appeal in the coming days,” Mir posted on his Instagram stories on Monday. “I still have faith in the justice system.”The events took place in the early hours of September 1, 2024, when the pair met the two women at the Mya nightclub in Valencia’s City of Arts and Sciences following a La Liga match between Valencia and Villarreal.Mir left the nightclub with two friends, including Jara. The two women later travelled with them by taxi to Mir’s home in Betera, on the outskirts of Valencia. The offences were found by the court to have taken place at the property. Mir assaulted one of the women in the pool area and inside a bathroom, while Jara assaulted the second woman in the pool before forcing her out of the house.
