Its the automaker's first mass market model, with a starting price of around $50,000.
The Cosmos will enter production by the end of this year.
Lucid is gearing up to launch its much-needed rival to the Tesla Model Y and Rivian R2 by the end of this year. Christened the Cosmos, the roughly $50,000 midsize crossover will be the electric automaker's first model with the potential for mass appeal.
The California startup has earned a reputation for the exceptional performance and packaging of its Air sedan and the Gravity SUV. As it looks to become profitable after years of burning cash, it will need its upcoming mass-market crossover to succeed. Just as the Model 3 and Model Y catapulted Tesla into the mainstream, Lucid and Rivian are placing similar bets on the Cosmos and R2, respectively.
