Everybody is waiting for the first domino to fall, and that’s a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade. We won’t dive back into that just yet.Instead, let’s take a look at potential free agency and non-Giannis trades by using John Hollinger’s Top 25 free agents as a springboard. He has some great analysis and potential salary tags for these guys. Here are five takeaways I have after reading it.Can you find a big man this summer? Let’s stay away from the restricted guys for a second and look at potential unrestricted big men to throw at Victor Wembanyama at some point in your journey. Here are your best options: Kristaps Porziņģis, Deandre Ayton and Sandro Mamukelashivili. Maybe you have a shot at Isaiah Hartenstein if things go completely haywire with his situation, but that’s only a one-in-a-billion chance if the Thunder decline his team option and then he doesn’t sign a new deal with them.I guess Porziņģis is the best option, but the 30-year-old has rarely been healthy the last couple of years. Ayton has a player option he could probably decline, and Mamu is a backup big man. The trade market might make more sense. We’ll tackle that in a bit. Will offensive playmakers be readily available? Yes! Austin Reaves is the big one once he declines his modest player option for a max deal. It’s presumed that the Lakers will keep the 28-year-old, and they probably will. But there will be teams ready to throw a max offer sheet at him the second free agency opens. Trae Young could decline his option, but he’s looking for a new deal with the Wizards. Guys like Ayo Dosunmu (Timberwolves), Coby White (Hornets) and CJ McCollum (Hawks) are out there, as well. Will restricted free agents change teams? It’s already very difficult to pry a restricted free agent away from a team. Most teams don’t bother trying because they don’t want their salary cap taken for days after an offer sheet, only to have it be matched. But could throwing a max deal at 22-year-old Jalen Duren put pressure on the Pistons? Walker Kessler and the Jazz are far apart. Is he gettable? Can the Rockets afford to match a big offer sheet to Tari Eason?Who will get big pay bumps? Look for guys like Collin Gillespie (Suns), Keon Ellis (Cavaliers), Reaves and Dosunmu to receive big jumps in pay. Reaves will be in the $35-40 million dollar range annually. Dosunmu could easily get $25 million per year. Gillespie might increase to the high teens. And Ellis should at least find himself with the mid-level exception (starting at $15.1 million). Will some surprising names be traded? There are questions about Anthony Davis staying in Washington. The aforementioned Young, 27, could find his way out of D.C., as well, but that seems less likely. Kyrie Irving isn’t supposed to be available, but plenty of teams want to pry the 34-year-old point guard from the Mavericks. The Grizzlies will assuredly revisit their Ja Morant situation. And again … you know … Giannis. The last 24🤔 Any answers? The Lakers have a lot of plans with the roster this summer. But how long will they wait on LeBron? 🔮 My way. James Dolan was heavily criticized for years as the Knicks’ owner. He won the championship on his own terms. ❤️ Hart and soul. The Knicks’ Josh Hart is a winner, even if it looks ugly out there sometimes. Every champion needs a player like him, James Edwards writes.🔊 “NBA Daily.” Watch and listen as the gang discusses the best fits in the NBA Draft.
