The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced the disruption of an alleged plot to carry out coordinated attacks during the high-profile UFC Freedom 250 event held near the White House in Washington, D.C., leading to the arrest of five suspects and the identification of more than 20 others linked to the scheme.
According to investigators, the alleged conspiracy involved the use of explosive-laden drones to strike buildings near the event venue.
Fox News reports that authorities further stated that a second phase of the operation included plans to storm the White House gate amid the confusion created by the initial attacks.
Officials disclosed that the FBI first became aware of the threat on June 10 and subsequently secured probable cause for an arrest in Cincinnati, Ohio, where one of the suspects was taken into custody.
