ALBAWABA - A massive fire erupted at an oil refinery in the Kapotnya district of Moscow, Russia, following a drone attack by Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the strike.Zelenskyy said, "This time, the Moscow region felt the reach of Ukraine’s long-range capabilities. An oil refinery was hit at a distance of 500 kilometers. I thank the warriors of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Special Operations Forces, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, and the Missile Forces for their effective work."The Russian Defence Ministry announced that forces had destroyed 172 UAVs launched by Ukraine between 20:00 p.m. on June 15 and 07:00 a.m. on June 16, local media reported.Russian media said the oil refinery is located approximately 15 km from the Kremlin.The Pravda news website reported Tuesday that the Kapotnya refining capacity exceeds 11-12 million tonnes of oil per year.It produces gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, marine fuel, road bitumen and other petroleum products.Authorities in Russia said that a huge blaze had broken out at the facility in the settlement of Poltavskaya. Videos on social media were shared showing a cloud of black smoke rising into the sky.According to sources, the refinery in Kapotnya is one of the country's 10 largest refineries and supplies around 40 percent of the Moscow region's demand for petroleum products.
