WHO will don the Don 4 mantle? That is the biggest question in Bollywood right now after a very public spat between top actor Ranveer Singh, who would have played the role, and producers Excel Entertainment, led by Farhan Akhtar.
Akhtar was the brain behind a remake of the 1978 Amitabh Bachchan superhit Don, which became a cult classic. He roped in Shah Rukh Khan for Don: The Chase Begins Again, in 2006. It became such a hit that the team got together again for Don 2: The King is Back, in 2011.
Khan declined to join Akhtar for the latest in the franchise, so the producer opted for current flavour of the month in Bollywood, Singh, with a big media hype about the signing. But Singh withdrew on the eve of the shooting, citing unhappiness with the script, causing alleged huge losses for the production company.
Now, as the shadow of a multibillion-rupee legal wrangles loom over the project, attention has turned to who will take on the role of the latest Don, with several names being bandied about.
