A B-52 bomber plane crashed after taking off from an Air Force base in California, according to officials. The military aircraft plummeted to the ground just outside of Los Angeles around 11.20am PT on Monday after departing from Edwards Air Force Base, the base said in a social media post. 'Emergency crews immediately responded to the scene and the situation is ongoing,' the agency added. Plumes of thick black smoke quickly covered the area after the crash, which happened in the Mojave Desert. It remains unclear if anyone was injured in the crash and what caused it.
