UK and Japan Ratify Frontier Technology Partnership to Align Quantum Computing Initiatives

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have signed the bilateral UK-Japan Frontier Technology Partnership (FTP). Executed in London, the non-legally binding agreement establishes a structured framework to integrate the UK’s quantum software and academic research pipelines with Japan’s large-scale hardware manufacturing base. Building directly upon the foundational Quantum Memorandum of Cooperation finalized in 2025, the strategic accord outlines coordinated government research and development support, multilateral regulatory coordination, and targeted private capital mobilization to scale and secure the critical supply chains underpinning the quantum industrial sector.
