Oliver Tree's ex-girlfriend, Melanie Martinez, has shared a tear-jerking tribute after the singer was one of four famous faces who tragically died in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro20:17, 15 Jun 2026Oliver Tree's ex-girlfriend has shared a tear-jerking tribute. The singer tragically died aged just 32 over the weekend, alongside director Lucas Vignale, Argentinian YouTuber Gaspar Prim, known to millions as Gaspi, DJ and producer Lucas Frota, whose real name was Lucas Brito Chaves, and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.‌The group were travelling in a helicopter, which collided with another helicopter above an electric vehicle yard in the Brazilian city. Local police launched an investigation and demanded a forensic examination of the scene. Meanwhile, the local fire department, Traffic Engineering Company, Comlurb, and teams from 31st BPM, were also working at the location. Human error might have led to the collision between the two helicopters, Rio de Janeiro police investigator Alan Luxardo told reporters Monday at the crash site. He added that authorities were investigating whether air traffic controllers or one of the pilots was responsible for the crash.‌Now, Tree's former girlfriend, singer Melanie Martinez, who found fame on The Voice, has taken to social media and said she was a "wreck". The 31-year-old told her Instagram followers: "It's really hard to understand how someone who you once shared such a specific and formative time of your life with can all of a sudden be gone.‌"He was so dedicated to his art, which I admired and respected so deeply. I think everyone who knew him will look back at those moments of laughter and joy he so easily sparked. His laugh was so contagious and warm."His ability to lead creatively and take action while also maintaining a sense of childlike wonder and awe was so inspiring. He had such a soft heart and was a true artist in every way.‌"Rest in peace Oliver. I know you're making the angels giggle. I'll be here wondering what stunt and creative project you're scheming up in heaven. All my love."‌Fellow musicians have also taken to social media, with Bebe Rexha writing: "I'm in shock. I was in the middle of my CD signing in NYC when I found the news of Oliver Tree. I can't believe it. We recorded a record together to be on Dirty Blonde. He was so smart. Passionate. Talented. Kind, I'm so sad. May he rest in peace."DJ and producer Oliver Heldens, a friend of Tree, shared a snap of the pair in Tokyo as he honoured his late pal. Heldens said: "I can not believe it... Rest in peace brother, you were one of a kind and you'll be truly missed @olivertree. See you again in another life," alongside a dove and red rose emoji.American DJ and producer, Diplo, also a close friend of Tree's, shared a string of images and videos of the pair taken over the years. He said: "When people ask me who my dream collaborator is, I never gave the right answer. I might say something obvious, or anyone with a good personality. But it is, and always will be, Oliver Tree.‌"We met each other as fans, but I don't think I've ever met another creator with the same raw ambition for chaos as me. He convinced me he graduated from clown college and was an amateur belly dancer. He told me his engineer was his brother and that he spoke Russian. He rented a tank just to ride it in a video he shot in Estonia. I asked him to give a speech at my second Run Club ever, and he told everyone there were wild bears in the park and to avoid them."Diplo went on to say: "I once left a session where I asked him to help finish a song with Tyga just to use the bathroom. When I came back, he had deleted all the vocals and made an entire diss song about me being a bad producer, a boomer, and a terrible dad. I think I laughed for a week.‌"He toured Antarctica with me just to play dubstep on the boat as his alter ego, Dr. Oliver Tree. He was witty as f**k. Cooler than me. Cooler than everyone. But he always had time to make a video for anyone who asked, for their kids, their cousins, their sister, whoever. His confidence was on a biblical level, and he could back it up because he was a monumental, endless fountain of creativity."In a heartbreaking move, he went on to say that Tree was the "brother he never had". "When I heard the news today, I hoped it was some elaborate, painstakingly insane way to drop a new song. But it wasn't," he added, before saying: "My friend crashed in a helicopter."It doesn’t feel real. Part of me still thinks I’m going to see him in a few weeks, exactly like always. What a f***ing rockstar he was. I'm not gonna say I miss you yet, because somehow you’re still here. Still inspiring me right now."Article continues belowAfter the tragedy, the Brazillian Air Force said: "The Brazilian Air Force (FAB), through the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA), informs that, this Sunday (June 14th), investigators from the Third Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (SERIPA III), based in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), were called to carry out the Initial Action of the incident involving two aircraft, registration numbers PP-MAC and PR-DJJ, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro (RJ)."During the Initial Action, qualified and accredited professionals apply specific techniques for data collection and confirmation, preservation of evidence, initial verification of damage caused to or by the aircraft, and gathering other information necessary for the investigation."Like this story?
