A former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has condemned the court order for the deregistration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and four other political parties.
Adebayo described the court ruling as a dangerous assault on Nigeria’s democratic system and a contradiction of the ideals celebrated during the 2026 June 12 Democracy Day.
SaharaReporters earlier reported that the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, ordered the deregistration of the ADC, Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), Action Peoples Party (APP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), for failing to meet constitutional requirements for recognition.
Justice Peter Lifu, in a judgment delivered on Monday, directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the affected parties after they failed to secure 25 per cent of the votes in the last general elections, in line with the provisions of the law.
