Belinda JacksonJun 16, 2026 – 5.00amPumphouse Point, the historic retreat set within Tasmania’s Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park, has recently undergone a $2.25-million development by owner NRMA Parks and Resorts (which also houses Freycinet Lodge and Cradle Mountain Hotel). The historic site – which includes a 1940s hydroelectric station that juts 250 metres into the lake and an on-land substation – was refitted into a hotel in 2015, with 18 guest rooms. A private retreat, tucked into the forest, was added soon after and, last year, two further private retreats opened as part of the upgrade.Subscribe to gift this articleGift 5 articles to anyone you choose each month when you subscribe.Subscribe nowAlready a subscriber?
