The upcoming meeting follows a preliminary agreement reached between Tehran and Washington on Sunday, which U.S. Vice President JD Vance said was electronically signed the same day.

“On Friday, a meeting will likely take place in Switzerland between the heads of the delegations from both sides, where the memorandum of understanding between Iran and America will be signed, followed by the first round of subsequent negotiations,” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters following a meeting with the Iranian parliament’s Economic Commission.

Addressing the potential impact on Iran’s sanctioned economy, Araghchi said the agreement could pave the way for economic opportunities, but cautioned that the country’s financial strategy should not depend on the outcome of talks with Washington.

Araghchi emphasized that Iran is approaching the implementation phase with deep skepticism, citing what he described as a history of broken commitments by the United States under previous accords.

“In foreign policy, we do not miss any opportunity, but we do not pin our hopes on any opportunity either,” Araghchi said.
