Key Points

Monday is samba day in Rio. The two great Monday rodas run tonight: Pedra do Sal in Saúde and Samba do Trabalhador in Andaraí — both traditions of 20 years, both the real anchor of a carioca Monday.

Pedra do Sal (Saúde, Largo João da Baiana) holds its open-air roda de samba from around 18h to midnight — free, outdoor, at the historic foot of the stone steps. The most famous Monday night in the city.

Samba do Trabalhador (Andaraí, Clube Renascença, R. Barão de São Francisco 54) runs with Moacyr Luz — doors 16h30, samba from 17h, Moacyr himself from around 19h, R$20–30. A seated, indoor roda.

The ticketed rooms are quiet: Blue Note Rio is dark on Mondays (its week starts Tuesday), and the Lapa casas — Rio Scenarium, Carioca da Gema — do not run Mondays.
