Bitcoin mining and high-performance computing firm Bitdeer Technologies Group has broken ground on a new energy and digital infrastructure facility in Alberta, Canada.

The Singapore-based company said the project, located near Fox Creek, will pair a 101MW on-site natural gas power plant with a data center offering around 100MW of computing capacity.

Bitdeer said the US$155 million (CA$214m) project is expected to energize in the second quarter of 2027. The facility is being developed on a 7.7-hectare/19-acre site approximately 1.5km from the Town of Fox Creek, in the Municipal District of Greenview No. 16.

Under Alberta’s bring-your-own-generation framework, the data center will be powered directly by the on-site gas plant rather than drawing its operating electricity from the provincial grid.
