The students protested Google's involvement in Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion deal providing cloud computing and AI services to the Israeli government and military. Protesters chanted “free, free Palestine” and waved Palestinian flags as they exited the ceremony. Pichai had previously stated that Google is not a place to 'fight over disruptive issues or debate politics' in response to internal backlash over Project Nimbus.
