Ralford Mullings picked up the first win by a Jamaican at the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, after capturing the men's discus title on Friday.Representing Oklahoma University, Mullings, the defending champion, made it back-to-back victories in the event with a throw of 65.81 metres. Last year's fourth-place finisher, Racquil Broderick of the University of South Carolina, improved on that placing to finish second like he did in 2024 with 64.15m. Two other Jamaicans finished in the top six, as Christopher Young of Arkansas was fifth with 62.30m, the same distance achieved by Shamar Reid of Florida State, who ended sixth.Jamaican athletes also secured top-three finishes in the men's 800 metres, where Arkansas teammates Tyrice Taylor and Rivaldo Marshall finished second and third, respectively. Taylor produced a personal best 1:44.30 for second, while Marshall was third in 1:44.93, as Colin Sahlman of Northern Arizona won in a personal best 1:44.22.After experiencing problems during his race, Demario Prince of Baylor had to settle for sixth in the men's 110m hurdles in 13.25 seconds. Meanwhile, new world record holder Ja'Kobe Tharp of Auburn proved that his world record run two days earlier was no fluke as he went under 13 seconds again, winning in 12.90 seconds.Other Jamaicans competing on Friday's second and final day of competition for the men included Apalos Edwards of Kansas State, who was 12th in the men's triple jump with a distance of 15.99 metres, Trevor Gunzell of Alabama, who was 14th in the discus with 58.90m, and Chad Hendricks of LSU, who finished 24th in the discus with 55.40m.One of the highlights of the final day of competition came from Cayman Islands athlete Jaiden Reid, competing for Louisanna State University (LSU). Reid, who represented Jamaica College at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships, was very impressive in the sprint events. He stormed to a personal best, meet record, facility record, championship record and world-leading 19.63 seconds to win the men's 200 metres. Earlier, he finished second in the 100 metres in a wind-assisted 9.82 seconds, with the wind reading a positive 2.2 metres per second.
