Photo: UAE Presidential CourtThe US-Iran peace deal set to dominate discussionsThe NationalJune 15, 2026President Sheikh Mohamed will join fellow global leaders at the G7 summit in France, with the US-Iran peace deal and plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz set to top the agenda.Sheikh Mohamed was invited to attend the three-day global gathering - which gets under way on Monday at the spa resort of Evian - by French President Emmanuel Macron.US President Donald Trump has confirmed his attendance at the event, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also been invited to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war.The G7 - or Group of Seven - is a political bloc of advanced economies, comprised of the US, the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan.The group meets annually to discuss pressing challenges facing the world, with other countries outside of its membership invited to attend."The UAE’s invitation to participate in the summit reflects the global recognition accorded to the country and its role in promoting international cooperation and addressing shared challenges," state news agency Wam reported.The G7 is to come together as the US and Iran edge closer to ending a war that has caused turmoil across the Middle East, with wide-ranging impact felt around the world.The US and Iran have announced a memorandum of understanding outlining a framework for an immediate ceasefire and a phased road map to end the war that began in February.With a formal signing expected this week, US President Donald Trump said he had authorised the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.Sheikh Mohamed is to travel to France after concluding a fraternal visit to Egypt, where he held key talks with President President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.The two men discussed the Iran war and its implications for regional and international security.They stressed the importance of working to promote peace and stability as essential foundations for development.Updated: June 15, 2026, 1:59 PM
