NewsUK NewsCrimeVickrum Digwa was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years for Henry Nowak's murder in Southhampton15:01, 15 Jun 2026Updated 15:17, 15 Jun 2026The sentence handed to the man who fatally stabbed student Henry Nowak in Southampton will be reviewed by the Court of Appeal.Vickrum Digwa, 23, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years after killing Mr Nowak, who was aged 18.Digwa's sentence has been referred to the Court of Appeal as Solicitor General Ellie Reeves KC applied for the jail term to be reconsidered under the Unduly Lenient Sentence scheme.She said: "This case horrified me, and I know that feeling is shared by the British public."It is right that difficult questions need to be answered about the way the police handled Henry’s Nowak’s murder, while my role is to review Digwa’s sentence for his crimes."After careful consideration, I have taken the decision to refer this case to the Court of Appeal."No sentence can ever undo the devastation that Henry’s family have suffered, or fill the void left by his loss."But I hope this referral goes some way towards bringing them the justice they deserve."Digwa has rceently been jailed for murdering Mr Nowak in December as the "weapons-obsessed" killer carried an eight-inch Sikh ceremonial knife when he stabbed Mr Nowak before falsely claiming the student had racially abused him.Mr Nowak was then left bleeding out as police officers ignored his pleas for help and handcuffed him after Digwa claimed he had been subjected to racist remarks.Bodycam footage shows Mr Nowak telling officers several times that he had been stabbed, with one officer telling him "I don't think you have, mate" in response.Article continues belowThe footage sparked outrage and protests, with dozens of people charged over disruption during the demonstrations.Choose Daily Mirror as a 'Preferred Source' on Google News for quick access to the news you value.Crime
